Detectives have arrested and charged a St. Petersburg man with one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
Pinellas deputies responded to 2595 50th Avenue North, #2, in St. Petersburg after a male calling from the home reported he had stabbed his grandmother. Upon their arrival, they found the victim, 70-year-old Eula Powless in the home with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso and neck area. She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Through their investigation, the suspect was identified as 23-year-old Joseph Richard Levan. Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit met with Levan who admitted to the allegations and advised he had been planning out the attack for the past several days.
Levan was charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the First Degree and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.
The investigation continues.
At this hour the victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.
