14-202 Detectives Investigate Fire At A Dunedin Residence

What:
Detectives assigned to the Arson and Auto Theft Unit and the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating a fire at a residence in Dunedin.  A man and a dog were found deceased inside the residence.

When:
Deputies initially responded to the fire at about  5:39 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014.

Where:
The fire occurred at a private residence located at 444 North Paula Drive, #215 in Dunedin.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Arson and Auto Theft Unit and the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating a fire at the Scottish Towers II located at 444 North Paula Drive in Dunedin.  Deputies responded to the fire in unit #215 at approximately 5:39 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014.

According to investigators, the fire appears to have started near the bed in the studio apartment. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Deputies say the fire is not suspicious in nature.

54-year-old Ronald Riley and his dog “Niles” were found deceased inside the apartment.  Deputies say there was a working smoke alarm inside the apartment.

The investigation continues.
