Deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have responded to a deputy involved crash. The deputy was not injured. The driver of the vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.
When:
Deputies responded to the crash at about 12:43 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of US19 and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Tarpon Springs.
Why/How:
According to investigators, Deputy Brandon Lundy was traveling northbound on US 19 responding to an emergency call in the area. As Deputy Lundy approached the intersection of E MLK Jr.Drive, he activated his emergency lights to make a left across US19. Investigators say as Deputy Lundy made the left turn, he was struck on the passenger side of the cruiser by 19-year-old Elexa Clark who was driving southbound on US19.
Clark was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Deputy Lundy was not injured in the crash.
Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
